There are a few more releases here and there that were only released on streaming platforms as singles or EPs, or that are collaborations with other artists.
Desvelos – Incipit (Phaneronaut Remix)

Salvatore Pichireddu from Desvelos about “Incipit”:
“Incipit” (Latin for “it begins”) refers to the first words (or letters) of a text, document, or song. In handwritten texts, this was designed in a particularly artistic way. A beginning. And isn’t it said that every beginning has its own magic? Perhaps it is the magic of transience that is already inherent in the beginning. “Incipit” is the opener of my album Desvelos, which I started recording over 20 years ago with two friends from Hanover, Thomas Köhler and Sandra Barclay. What’s more, it was the first track we recorded. And with the remix by Udo Gerhards aka. Phaneronaut, a radical reinterpretation of the piece, the Desvelos chapter comes to an end, around 20 years after the recordings were completed (the album has only been online for a week).
Udo has brought the piece into the present, so to speak, and added a new dimension to it. Desvelos has never sounded more prog and rock (electric guitars!).
Desvelos 2 – Land of Dreams (Phaneronaut Remix)

“Land of Dreams” is another collaboration with Sal Pichireddu, a drastically altered remix of one of his songs. “Land of Dreams” is a song about the island of Sardinia, the land of Sal’s ancestors where he still has a house today. I tried to pay hommage to Sardinia by a including a few specific musical ingredients.

An extensive collaboration with Sal Pichireddu (The Infinite Monkey Theorem) and Zinkl. There are extensive liner notes for the project on the Bandcamp page for the album: https://timtheorem.bandcamp.com/album/christmas-2024
Il freddo dell’asfalto (Pirate Radio Edit) (2024)

This is another collaboration with my friend Sal and his project “The Infinite Monkey Theorem” project. Sal writes lyrics and then uses generative AI as a tool to create demos and ideas of songs. Here I took one of the AI generated demos and reworked the arrangement completely. The single is part of a larger project, “Christmas 2024” (see above).
My Truth is not Your Truth (Phaneronaut Remix) (2024)

This is a remix I did for my friend Sal and his project “The Infinite Monkey Theorem“. I also wrote a long blog post about the remix process, detailing what I did and why.
Zinkl & Phaneronaut: Kikai no uta (2023)

This is an interesting collaboration between Phaneronaut and fellow Munich musician Anton Zinkl, who did a remix of the song “Mashin no uta” (see below). You can read more about the genesis of this project in this blog post by Zinkl (in German). “Kikai no uta” is contained in the Bandcamp download of “The Song of the Machine” as a bonus track.

This is a single that is contained in the 2024 Phaneronaut album “The Song of the Machine“, but was released separately several months before the album was finished.
This did not start out with a masterplan to create an international J-Pop hit; I don’t like the 80s music aesthetic and I have no special affinity for Manga, Anime or J-Pop. The idea here was to toy around with the Royal Road Chord progression (it’s a thing, google if interested) and Synthesizer V’s vocal synthesis (https://dreamtonics.com/synthesizerv/) in addition to using 80s Synth sounds. As I thought this turned out rather nicely, I decided to release it on its own.
Shift Control, V2 (2019)

A retro-futuristic exploration into polymetric rhythms in analog electronics. Actually, these were the first noises made under the name Phaneronaut in the year 2018, even if they were released a few days after Somatic System.
Soundcloud
It’s also worth it to keep an eye on Phaneronaut’s Soundcloud profile. Sometimes, previews and otherwise unreleased pieces turn up there as well.
Other musical project
You can find more information about other musical projects with Udo’s involvement (for example “Nekropolis ’22“) on the About Phaneronaut page.
